Wigs 101: PermaTease or PermaLift

If you are a first time shopper for women wigs, more than likely you’ll encounter the term “Perma Tease”. Even for people who have worn wigs for a while, at some point down the road, you will ask the question: what is perma tease?

This article is to explain all about Perma Tease, or also know as “Perma Lift”.

So the name “Permatease” comes from “Permanent Teasing”. Some people would tease their bio hair by taking a small section up and backcombing with a fine tooth comb or a teasing brush. For wigs, this is a similar concept here. It is designed to give extra and permanent volume and body to the wig.

PermaTease is mostly used on basic wefted cap wigs without any lace or mono top features. But this does not mean mono or lace cap wigs don’t have permatease at all. Sometimes you can still find permatease at the crown of mono caps to give it an extra bumpy look in the back.

If you are looking at hair wefted wigs, you’ll almost always find permatease along the parting line. This is not a bad thing. It gives the wig lift and disguises the wefts of the cap.

While permatease may seem “matted” or “ratty” for a new wig-wearer, it is important to know that in most cases, they are not noticeable. In fact, they are intentional. Without permatease, a standard cap wig wouldn’t have any of the life or movement shown in photos.

For example, LaVivid Carrie Synthetic Wig, you will find a reasonable amount of permatease along the parting line. This is to generate more volume and body for the wig. When applied, no one will notice the permatease especially with the dark root design. Important thing is, don’t panic, just apply!
